How To Care For Your Long Hair

Last updated: July 19, 2017

If you’re a dude with long hair, and you’ve had long hair for a while, chances are you’ve cared for it the same way for pretty much ever. Whether you wear it down, top knot it, or rock a manly ponytail, it’s time to learn the proper way to care for your long locks. Switching up your grooming routine to make sure you’re properly caring for your hair will make your hair healthier than ever, and can even prevent premature hair loss! With that, lets dive right in on how to care for your long locks.

There’s actually not a lot of advice out there for mens long hair, since women primarily are the ones with longer manes. Any girl with long hair will tell you that proper hair care starts the moment you step into the shower.

Use The Right Shampoo

So what’s step one? If you are a man with long hair, it is pretty crucial that you use the right kind of shampoo so that your hair doesn’t look like a greasy mess. If you’ve got fine thin hair, look for a clarifying shampoo that will remove the excess oils. If you’ve got frizzy curly hair, look for something with a keratin protein, that helps keep frizz away! It may take a few tries to get the perfect formula for you, but take advantage of stores’ return policies and don’t stop until you find which one works best on your hair. After all, we know the importance of choosing the right product for your hair. 😉

Comb Your Hair Gently

Most men probably think that the main reason they need to comb their hair is to make it look neat and well kept. While that is partially true, there are a few other important reasons why you need to comb, and why you need to do it properly. Combing your hair evenly helps spread the natural oils around in your hair, keeping it looking and feeling healthy. You should brush slow and gently though, because fast and hard strokes can rip out your hair before it’s natural life cycle. It is best to take long and gentle strokes to ensure your taking the best care of you hair. It’w best to comb right after a shower, when hair is damp (not wet), and to use a wide tooth comb.

Air Dry Hair When You Can

If your are a dude with long hair, some times it isn’t easy to avoid using the blow dryer. Especially if you shower before work, its necessary sometimes to get locks perfectly dry before you head out the door. If you must blow dry hair, use a heat protectant spray on your hair first. But it is way better for your hair to towel dry and then let it air dry. Air drying hair keeps hair looking healthier and frizz free way longer!

And there you have it, the best ways to care for long hair for men! Take care of those long locks, and enjoy!

Hard Part With Side Bangs

The hottest trend for 2017 in mens hairstyles is the hard part with grown out bangs. Its got a defined shaved edge to one side, while the rest of the hair is a grown out length.

This style needs a light amount of a matte pomade to secure the wispy bangs, but you can slick them back or to the side just about any way you want!

Personally I think this look is made even better with a top coat of oil-based pomade to give it that glossy finish.

The pompadour is peak of vintage hairstyle greatness, and we have totally respect for any man who can pull this off. The trick to this look is patience, and of course the right buildable pomade. The classic look features slicked back sides, with most of the body in the bangs area.

The more modern pompadour features more side styling with a soft wave. Either way, it’s a dapper look, and we are very happy it’s back in style!
